one last morning together
the setting
An 18th-century neoclassical palace in the hills of Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The gates of Seteais — walk through, and you're ours for the weekend.
Frescoed ceilings, crystal chandeliers, and gardens where poets once wandered.
The entire palace and its thirty rooms are reserved for our celebration.
Mystical forests, fairy-tale castles, and Atlantic breezes all around.
Seteais — seven sighs, for views that have been stealing breath since 1783. You may sigh an eighth.
how it all began
We met at Brown through Junto, a discussion group that gave us plenty to talk about—and a very good excuse to keep talking long after the meetings ended.
One summer in Oakland, Amélie was supposed to be fully immersed in Arabic camp. Instead, she kept sneaking out so we could hike, laugh, and steal a little more time together. Our first adventure was at Lands End, with the Pacific below us and the Golden Gate appearing through the fog. Not long after, in the San Francisco Botanical Garden, we said “I love you” for the first time.
Years later, we returned to Lands End. One of us asked a very important question; the other gave the easiest yes. Now we cannot wait to bring the people we love to Portugal and celebrate this next chapter together.

with all our love, Matt & Amélie
where to stay
We'd love nothing more than to have everyone under one roof, waking up together in this magical place.
stay inside the story
Seteais began as a late-18th-century neoclassical palace created for Daniel Gildemeester, the Dutch consul in Portugal. In the early 19th century, the Marquis of Marialva added its second wing and the triumphal arch that still frames the hills of Sintra.
Room types range from Deluxe to Royal Suite — contact us if your plans have changed.
Sintra & around
Sintra is full of charming hotels and quintas, and we'll arrange transportation between town and the palace.
Staying elsewhere? Contact us if we should update our transportation notes.
